The Adelphi Hotel is a Scoop Saratoga partner.
I was reading a book last week about the types of “positive influencers” you have in your life. They were described as 1: Pillars: Those sources of unconditional support and acceptance. 2. Bridges: These are your connectors to new people and resources. And 3: Extenders: Those quite different from us who push us out of our comfort zone. I happened to be listening to the book* while getting ready to meet some girlfriends for Sunday brunch, eager to check out The Adelphi’s Hotel’s updated brunch menu and newly renovated atrium.
As I listened to these descriptions, I thought about the fact that I was bringing together a group of women who didn’t know one another. This is something I absolutely LOVE to do. Think hard about personalities, lifestyles, and organize a gathering. It became immediately apparent to me that I am a BRIDGE. I’ve always been a bridge. There are few things that make me happier than when someone leaves a party we’ve hosted and tells me all about an amazing new friend that they plan on keeping in touch with.
Keep in mind, the lure of a brunch at Morrissey’s Lounge and Bistro (in The Adelphi Hotel), accompanying creative cocktail menu and anticipation of seeing the newly renovated atrium space (which can now accommodate larger events) probably influenced their decision to spend the morning with me and a bunch of strangers. But I do feel confident in saying that everyone fully enjoyed both the company and amazing meal we shared together.
Right out of the gate, we noticed the gorgeous new floors and boxwood dividers, which really added to the clean, modern design of the room. And created an absolutely perfect backdrop for a Sunday brunch. We kicked off conversation by sampling a variety of drinks off the brunch cocktail menu (they make great mocktails too!) including the Watermelon Spritz and Casa Cugine, in addition to a traditional Bloody Mary and Mimosa.
Although we all agreed that we really didn’t “need it”, we couldn’t resist the description of the sticky bun. Nor did we “need” the lobster dumplings that the chef so kindly sent out for us to enjoy. (Note: we were very happy he did.) Our entrees covered each section of the menu, and included the burrata wood fired pizza, lobster roll, Adelphi omelette, and my amazing (and very predictable) avocado toast. Everyone left with a full belly and wide smile.
Let’s face it… very few are socializing to the level that they were pre-pandemic. They might be feeling uncomfortable in larger gatherings (been there). Or… maybe just out of practice and uncomfortable (been there too). I have found that I sometimes have to force myself out of my comfort zone and make plans, never once regretting my decision to catch up with friends. The funny thing with this group? They were very willing to gather with a bunch of strangers over brunch, but quickly realized they had already met each other at some point in their lives. Because that’s Saratoga for you.
Socialization with girlfriends is something that I rarely make time for these days. And honestly, brunch is one of those things that isn’t part of my life. With four little boys and mornings full of sports and commitments, it’s difficult to be “social” at that hour. Spending my morning in this gorgeous new space, enjoying amazing food and surrounded by smart, kind friends was just what the doctor ordered. And something that will be intentionally scheduled into my life much more frequently going forward.
