You can’t walk into Betsy Olmsted’s new shop and showroom in downtown Saratoga Springs without smiling. This week, I SCOOPED with the artist about the creation of her whimsical textiles, and just exactly how she gets her designs from her head into our homes. Betsy’s early love for both nature and textiles are the inspiration behind her brand. I had SO much fun with Betsy. It’s hard not to.
Betsy shared the fact that she intentionally created a painting style that worked well for printing on fabric. She described her creative process, and how the final design layout for the wallpaper and fabric is digitally produced, and then printed with an eco-friendly digital printing process. She also shares a bit about the manufacturers she uses, who she values tremendously and considers friends.
After many years of running her textile company from her home studio, Betsy recently opened a retail shop and studio in the Saratoga Marketplace in downtown Saratoga Springs, NY. The shop has a great selection of home goods, including pillows, tea towels, soaps, and other whimsical gifts. It also carries unique bags, masks, jewelry and other wearable items. There, you can also check out her amazing selection of fabrics and wallpaper samples, made to order.
