TRANSFORMING FALL TRIMMINGS INTO AN ARRANGEMENT: AT NATIVE FARM FLOWERS

Within the first two minutes of chatting with Barbara Jefts of Native Farm Flowers, one thing was evident: Barbara LOVES what she does. The owner of this farm, located just outside of Saratoga Springs, NY, knows a bit about creating natural and unique floral arrangements.

Barbara’s artistic background, combined with her love for the outdoors, transformed her into a “farm florist” many years ago. A “farm florist”, as she explains here, works far in advance to plan their growing season to meet the client’s specific event needs. What I love most about Barbara’s designs are their naturally perfect imperfection.

While learning about the farm and its offerings, I asked Barbara to share some tips on how to create a simple fall arrangement using the turning flowers and plants in our own yards. Of course, she makes it look quite easy, but she’s full of great ideas on how to use what’s readily available to create our own works of art.

Native Farm Flowers is located in Greenfield Center, just four miles from downtown Saratoga Springs. The farm is dedicated to growing perennial and annual flowers naturally, using organic methods. Barbara is able to customize her growing to meet a wedding’s or event’s specific style.

This year, the farm will also be offering Thanksgiving and holiday wreath and arrangement workshops in their heated greenhouse, where attendees can safely spread out. The limited spaces sell out quickly and details about the workshops will be shared on their Instagram page, @nativefarmflowers . Native Farm also has a farm studio shop, which offers a selection of wreaths, arrangements, and eco printed silk scarves.
